After the devastating loss of Paul Lavelle in a domestic abuse incident in May 2017, friends and family came together to create The Paul Lavelle Foundation.
The Charity was created to raise awareness of male domestic abuse, support male domestic abuse victims and survivors and to provide healthy relationship education as a preventative measure.
The Charity Aims
- To raise awareness of male domestic abuse on a local and national level.
- To provide frontline therapeutic support for male victims & survivors of domestic abuse
- Healthy relationship education for children and young people
- Fundraising and promotion of physical and mental health and wellbeing though sports and physical activities
The PLF offers 1:1 therapy sessions for males, in their Community Hub in Birkenhead. The sessions are based around recovery from the experience of domestic abuse.
They work with young people aged 10 – 18 years who have been impacted by domestic abuse in the family environment helping them understand what constitutes as a healthy relationship and a healthy family environment, as well as helping build resilience and self-esteem.
They work with Wirral primary and secondary schools and Wirral Met College delivering healthy relationship workshops and assemblies, educating on how to maintain healthy relationships and spot signs of abuse.
The PLF also runs, all inclusive activity groups in the community, in the form of running, cycling, swimming and walking. The groups are for everyone, to encourage positive mental and physical health and wellbeing through outdoor activities. The groups also promote aspiration raising with the opportunity to attend numerous annual events that the PLF organises, for anyone to participate in, to achieve individual or group goals.
